Lepidolite is a stone I have quite a few of in my collection as it has innumerable properties and uses. It is a mineral from the mica family with many lithium deposits included in flakes. It is considered a rarer stone because it requires very specific conditions to be able to grow. Lepidolite can be found in many areas of the world including Brazil, Russia, Africa, the USA and more. While it was officially discovered in the 18th century, during the middle ages people used huge sheets of lepidolite to cover open areas of buildings and this became one of society’s first known uses of a window! It was originally called “Liliate” because of its lavender appearance but was changed to Lepidolite years later due to its flaky look. (Greek roots – “lepidos” meaning scale.) This crystal usually occurs as lilac, violet, pale pink or white and rarely grey or yellow crystals that have a vitreous to pearly luster but always has flakes in its appearance due to the type of minerals it contains. It is not a water safe crystal as it’s only a 2.5-3.5 on the mohs hardness scale and can easily be scratched by a fingernail, and when put in water it can chip and even dissolve. Tumbled or polished Lepidolite stones are better to bring with you on an outing or in a purse/pocket because they’re far less likely to chip or break, however I personally think it’s a bit of a crime to polish these stones from their raw state because of their natural beauty. When tumbled these stones lose the “glittery” look they possess in their natural state.
Lepidolite contains many metaphysical properties, hence I felt it was a perfect choice for the Triple Goddess issue! It balances the heart, third eye, and crown chakras which help us bring the body, mind, and soul into balance with one another. It brings a serene energy that helps us connect with our inner self, our inner goddess if you will. Because it integrates the heart chakra and the crown chakra it’s a perfect stone for aiding in meditations that include fine tuned psychic skills or channeling and mediumship. It gives you help with connecting to the other side while keeping you in your heart center. It helps us get into a deeper meditation and brings us into a theta wave state much more easily. Lepidolite opens up new neural pathways in our brains to help us access higher realms of consciousness and other planes of existence, making it almost effortless to contact our spirit guides, access the Akashic Records, and connect to cosmic Consciousness. It’s an extremely balancing energy and can help with overactive crown chakras. Meditating with a piece on your head will help calm and balance this energy. In my work I’ve seen overactive crown chakras manifest as being too focused on the spiritual side of things to the point we forget or struggle with our muggle things like eating and showering. It can stimulate synchronicity as it aids in our personal and spiritual awareness. Lepidolite most closely resonates with the signs of Libra and Capricorn (January birthstone). For Libra’s it helps with decision making, balancing our “buzzy” mental energy, and helps with boundary setting in a way that’s loving to the self. It assists Capricorn with getting out of thinking that’s too rigid, helps with working through tough emotions that this sign is known for repressing, and aids in connecting to their spiritual side more easily. When looking for stones to pair with Lepidolite, it’s essential to become clear on the reason for using this stone. If you’re looking to help process some tough shit going on or doing shadowwork it’s best paired with Onyx or Opals. If your intention is to better connect with spirit I recommend stones with heavenly tones such as Amethyst and Flower Agate.
Emotionally, Lepidolite helps maintain our sense of balance and sustain our equilibrium. It also has many other properties that aid us with our emotions. It boosts our serotonin levels naturally and instills feelings of compassion and forgiveness to ourselves and others. It’s soft energies aid in connecting to your inner being to help you love yourself. It also has a calming effect and helps us break free from feeling like we need others to help us navigate all situations in our lives by encouraging independence. It encourages harmonious relationships and helps healthy reciprocal friendships form. You can welcome Lepidolite by placing it in a shared space to reduce the imprint of codependency. It promotes feelings of comfort and safety making it an excellent stone for inner-child or shadowwork. As a stone of transition, it releases and reorganizes old psychological and behavioral patterns that will spark important changes in your life. Nicknamed “The Grandmother Stone” for it’s soft and nurturing energies, it’s a great companion for those with trauma and deep long term emotional wounds. (PTSD, SA, traumatic loss, survivors of domestic violence, etc.) It can be really beneficial for those with ADD/ADHD and especially for children who struggle with this due to its powerful balancing properties. One thing I find particularly interesting about this stone is its ability to relieve anxiety and depression. Get this – Lepidolite is made up of Mica and Lithium. Lepidolite is literally crystallized Lithium, the same mineral used in antidepressant/antianxiety medication, but in its pure form as it comes out of the earth!! It also reduces and protects against the effects of EMFs so it’s a great crystal to leave near tvs/computers/internet routers/etc especially for those of us who are super sensitive to these energies. I know I personally feel really “gunked” up when I’m around a lot of these draining frequencies.
Some of the most amazing properties Lepidolite has are the ones related to the physical body as it can do innumerable things for different ailments in our human meat suits haha. When placed on the body over an area of disease, it vibrates gently which can help us locate origin points of illnesses. It eases allergies, boosts our immune system and even restructures our DNA! The lithium contained within Lepidolite holds the power to rebalance brain function and neurological functions making it excellent for healing from neurological diseases. It is even said to help with reducing the symptoms of Alzheimer’s and Epilepsy. Lepidolite can help to stabilize moods in those with bipolar/depression/anxiety and can energetically curb hyperactivity and/or ADD/ADHD, and it is an excellent stone for sleep disorders, including insomnia due to stress or worry, or nightmares. This is because it enhances the generation of negative ions which calms our mental energy. It can also relieve exhaustion from these struggles. Interestingly it can help regulate menstrual cycles, cut back on PMS, and help the body and mind deal with changes brought on by hormonal cycles and menopause as it balances our Yin energy. It is excellent for monthly cycle and menopause symptoms especially as crystal water. I said earlier in the article that Lepidolite is NOT water safe so please do not put this crystal in water then drink it, to make crystal water with this stone hold it in your hand and make your intention to connect the energy to your hands and meditate with it for a few minutes. Then place your hands over a glass of water (or a bath!) and visualize the energy going from your hands into the water. Lepidolite has also been known to help numb sciatica and neuralgia and assists with nerve related disorders such as nerve pain and joint problems. It has a detoxifying effect and stimulates the purification process in the skin and connective tissues. When suffering from Weight loss/gain, alcohol dependency, smoking or drug abuse where these act as a mask for unhappiness , it can certainly encourage a profound mindset shift that can aid in the release of the mental or emotional dependency that fuels these addictive tendencies. Disclaimer – it is no substitute for a rehabilitation program, a counselor, or the help of a trained medical professional.
Lepidolite has many different and beautiful metaphysical, emotional, and physical properties that make it an essential stone in my collection. I’d recommend this stone for everyone wanting to get into crystals, it’s soft nurturing and balancing energies make it great for beginners and experts alike! Maybe it’s the heavy concentration of Libra in me but this stone is mesmerizing to look at and SO aesthetically pleasing.
About Kami
I’m a 21 year old woman (a baby i know!) who resides in Muskegon MI. I was born into a Christian and republican family which left me extremely indoctrinated for a lot of my adolescence and untimely forced me to repress all of my gifts. When I was an early teen I started questioning things. By that I mean I started questioning EVERYTHING, however I still wasn’t sold on the idea of anything spiritual and even became an atheist for a few years of my life. Fast forward to just before my graduation from high school, I was extremely depressed, anxious, severely suicidal, and prone to self harm. Add in living with an abusive partner and it felt like my life could never be a happy one. I met this woman by chance who identified as a psychic and I decided to go see if this could be a real thing as I was still extremely skeptical of it. Within minutes this woman changed my life. It was really like a flip switched and everything I had always been experiencing finally was making some sense. She showed me undoubtedly that she was the real deal and even explained how all of the science I loved and believed fully integrated and even proved a lot of spirituality. She taught me Reiki and spell work, how to channel, read tarot/pendulum and other forms of divination, and I felt she really wanted me to succeed as a healer. She always always gave me the energy that showed she was going to empower me. However that all came crashing down when I spent all of my savings on a studio to start practicing on others, suddenly her energy switched and she was saying terrible things to me, and because I respected her so much (too much), I believed what she was saying was true. Now I see that came from a place of feeling threatened by me on a subconscious level and have been able to stop internalizing that while still keeping the good information I learned from her and weeding out the bullshit. With the help of Astara in the initial fallout I learned my magick didn’t come from what this woman was saying to or about me. It ALWAYS came from me. I’ve learned to trust my own inner knowing and every part of my practice has gotten better for it. Yes, the purge was hard, but the expansion I gained from it gives me goosebumps to think about. I’m currently an Energy Therapist/Healer who offers a multitude of different healing modalities to help various emotional and physical ailments in people like myself who’ve struggled throughout their lives. I specialize in body work and energy manipulation.
